History of Bharatnatyam

                                   History of Bharatnatyam  Bharatnatyam is one of the most popular classical Indian dances. Bharatnatyam is more popular in South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Bharatnatyam dance is almost 2,000 years old.  It is believed that bharatnatyam was revealed by Lord Brahma to Bharata, a famous sage who then codified this sacred dance in a Sanskrit text called the Natya Shastra. The Natya Shastra is one of the fundamental treatises on Indian drama and aesthetics. Natya Shastra divides dance into two distinct forms- nritta, and nritya. In nritta, focus is on mastery of abstract hand gestures and movements, whereas the dancer employs a complex system of hand signals and body language to depict emotional expressions in Nritya. The different body movements called Karanas gives balance to our body. There are many mudras used while dancing which helps us to strengthen our nerve system. Bharathanatyam improves flexibility and increases our stamina. It provides us with good concentration power and makes our muscles strong. Bharathanatyam keeps our heart healthy and helps in circulating blood faster and pumping it. It includes expressions and gestures which improves our communication skills. Bharathanatyam is related to yoga so one will get all the benefits of doing yoga. So we can practice Bharathanatyam daily and be strong and healthy.

Nataraja  ( Tamil :  நடராஜர் ), is a depiction of the  Hindu god   Shiva  as the divine dancer. His dance is called  Tandavam  or  Nadanta , depending on the context of the dance.  The pose and artwork is described in many Hindu texts such as the  Anshumadbhed agama  and  Uttarakamika agama , the dance relief or idol featured in all major  Hindu temples  of  Shaivism .
